Searching for Regional Diversities in China: Introduction to the Studies of Local Gazetteers

Dr. Chen Hsi-yüan vystudoval histori na Taiwanské národní univerzitě a poté získal doktorát z oboru čínských dějin na Harvardove univerzitě v USA. Specializuje se na otázky kulturní a intelektuální historie pozdně císařského a republikánského období. Je autorem řady publikací na téma úlohy rituálu a náboženství v čínské společnosti na pomezí tradiční a moderní doby.

Seminář bude probíhat v anglickém jazyce. Součástí semináře je společná četba vybraných ukázek čínských pramenů. Zájemci se z organizačních důvodu musí registrovat nejpozději do 28.2. 2010 (na: cck_isce@ff.cuni.cz). Mimopražští zájemci mohou získat příspěvek na ubytování v Praze, prosím uvedte při registraci.

This course is intended for students and junior researchers who want to familiarize themselves with the Chinese local gazetteers. The course will comprise of lectures and discussions on selected topics concerning basic forms, common themes, and variation of the local gazetteers, by examining their structures and contents. Emphasis will be placed on the social customs and festivals from a comparative point of view, with special focus on the daily life of the populace and the mechanisms of local governance.
