Abstrakt:

“The Laws of the Han Empire”

Recently found documents and literary evidence show how the Han Empire inherited and expanded the laws of the Qin Empire, rather than simplifying them and mitigating the severity of their punishments. They also reveal the extent to which the laws affected living conditions and the procedure whereby criminal cases were tried.

The lecture will be accompanied by reading an example of some of the relevant texts.
